“THE NEXT BIG THING” is designed to raise awareness of our work, or work in progress. We do that by answering ten questions about it. We graciously thank the person who nominated us, and tag four to six other authors whose work could very well be THE NEXT BIG THING. Thank you Jo Ann Schneider for the tag.
What is the working title of your next book? Letters to Ellie but I am toying with changing it to Letters For Ellie.
Where did the idea come from for the book? It was about five years ago. We had an assignment for my writing group and the idea was born.
What genre does your book fall under? Fictional Narrative
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? This is a great question. I had to think for a bit on this. Since Ellie is a baby I would just pick a baby that looked like my daughter did when she was one. As for her parents in the novel, I would like David Wenham for the dad and Toni Collette for the mom.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? A young mother is faced with deciding to fight for her life or spend the last moments of what’s left with her family.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? I hope to be represented by an agency.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? It’s been at least two years. I am finishing up with the last of the chapters now. It would’ve been done in a shorter amount of time but I’ve had a baby and life happens sometimes!
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? I would say it’s similar to A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks in the feel of that type of drama. It’s also similar in style to A Catcher in the Rye because it’s written in letters.
Who or what inspired you to write this book? The friends and loved ones I know who have fought and lost their battle with breast cancer and for those who have survived. My own children have also been an inspiration.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? This book is based off the lives of several people with some situations being embellished and names changed.
I now tag the following people in hopes that they too will become the next big thing in books!
