My NaNoWriMo Goals 2013

I cannot believe it’s been two years since I participated in NaNaWriMo. For those of you who don’t know, November is the national write a novel in a month. It’s fun but can be stressful if you are juggling a lot of things at the same time. The goal is to write 50K by the end.

This year I am using NaNoWriMo to finish the last chapters of Letters For Ellie. I am at 5500K so far and I am surprised at how much I’ve been able to get done so far. My plan this time was to 1) make time each day. Even if that means only 1 hour. 2) don’t edit as you go. 3) have fun and don’t be stressed. So far it has worked pretty well. I am also blogging about my experience this time and posting on FB and Twitter for encouragement and community.

Do you have any strategies for getting your novel written in a month? Good luck to all the writers out there.

  1. I’m not officially participating in NaNo. But am writing the first draft of my new WIP during November. I started it yesterday. I have other priorities, so I’m just writing what I can every day and not stress out about it. I think that’s the key to it. If you stress, the words won’t come.

I think you are right Stina. The first few times I participated I was so stressed trying to meet the deadline every day that it lost the fun of discovery for me. Good luck with the first draft of your WIP.

What are your thoughts?
