Meet Author Pat Hatt

Today we have a guest blogger with us, author Pat Hatt. I hope you enjoy getting to know more about him and his latest book The Honk of Zagonk from Wayman Publishing. Pat has written four novels and seven children’s books. His rhyming abilities are amazing. I highly recommend these books for your kids and for yourself! I am a big fan of children’s picture books.

Pat HattToothpaste or gel? Toothpaste, even though I know it has a ton of unneeded crap in it.

What would I find in your refrigerator right now? Chicken, turkey bacon, veggies by the ton, more chicken, water, ketchup
and more chicken.

How would you describe yourself in three words? Hmmmmm crazy, imaginitive, fun

How long does it take you to write a book? A novel when my arm is in good shape, about 20 days. A children’s book,
about an hour.

Laptop of desktop for writing? Laptop, as I can sit where I want.

Where did the idea for The Honk of Zagonk come from? I just wanted to do a book about a dragon, so I started writing. Thought it would be neat if he couldn’t breathe fire and so it came to be. The children’s tales just flow out with ease.

Have you always been able to rhyme or did you have to work at it? Never knew I could rhyme until I started the blog and then it just comes naturally. No worked required.

What do you like about writing picture books? I like seeing the words come alive through illustrations and having kids enjoy them.

What is the lesson or message that you want your readers to take from The Honk of Zagonk? Differences are fine and all are unique in their own way.

If you could compare yourself to another author out there who would it be? Well it would probably be the most obvious choice, Dr. Seuss.

Who designs the covers of your books? I always have the covers done by the same artist who illustrates the books, so as to make all the illustrations just flow naturally.

Do you have plans for a new book? Oh I always have plans, I have a list of 20 novels to do and anywhere from 50-100 kids book ideas. No lack of ideas, just lack of funds to get them drawn and such. When I reach 100 kids books, then we’ll see how easy the ideas come.

Thanks for your time, hope it was sublime.

Screen Shot 2012-12-30 at 12.02.59 PMThe Honk of Zagonk is currently available in ebook and hard back.

Description: Each year there are ancient dragon games to crown the winner of the Cup of Flames. The young dragons all show off their new found flame, hoping the cup will dawn their name.

The year of Zagonk is remembered above them all. It is forever whispered in dragon hall. It was because instead of a flame he honked at his dragon game. Not something a dragon was known to do but away his honk flew.

That was also the year the Frost Giant caused all the dragons fear. But what happens when Zagonk brings his honk near? Find out what took place at dragon hall by adding another book from Pat Hatt to your wall.

Dear Pat, I’m amazed at the ideas teeming in your mind. That’s a great and wonderful gift from the Universe. I bought two of your books to give as Christmas gifts to my two eight-year-old great-great nephews. I read them before giving them as gifts and I was amazed at your talent. Good writing and publishing in the new year of 2013. Peace.
